Sugar Potts FAQ:

Q. What is sugar?

-Sugaring is an Ancient Egyptian method of hair removal that is gaining popularity in the United States as a luxury alternative to waxing. Sometimes called sugar waxing, sugaring s a gentle, effective and all natural solution for unwanted hair. Sugar paste is made from 3 ingredients (sugar, lemon juice, water) and contains no additives. There are no sticks or strips. It is applied and removed via a professional hand technique that takes time and dedication to master.

Q. How is sugaring different than waxing?

-Waxing removes hair is the opposite direction then hair growth, which can be very painful, leads to follicle scarring and can cause those nasty painful ingrown hair bumps everyone dreads. Wax is applied hot, which can cause painful burns or tearing of sensitive areas.

  1. Sugar isn’t hot so there is no risk of burning or turning your skin bright red.

  2. Sugar paste doesn’t stick to live skin cells-just the hair and dead skin cells, which means less irritation.

  3. The sugaring technique removes hair in the natural direction it grows. Waxing removes hair against the growth, which is more traumatizing for the skin.

Q. How long does hair have to be to get sugared?

-Length of hair should be approximately ¼” or longer, which is about the size of a grain of rice. If you have been shaving, 2-3 weeks of growth is usually sufficient, but longer is fine too. If you have been waxing or sugaring, you’ll want to wait 4-6 weeks in between your appointments without shaving.

Q. Can I get sugared during on my period?

-You may have heard that you can’t get sugared on your period, but you can indeed get a Brazilian wax during your menstrual cycle as long as you wear a tampon. Although, remember your skin is usually more sensitive during that time of the month so you might likely experience, discomfort during your session.

Q. Can I get sugared if I’m pregnant?

-Absolutely! The sugar paste has no additives or preservatives, which means no toxins, irritants or allergens. Body sugaring is completely safe! Besides, your belly reaches a point where it’s difficult to reach so please allow me to assist you! NOTE: some mothers do experience increased sensitivity so hair removal can be more uncomfortable then before.

Q. How long should I wait between sugaring appointments?

The ideal time to return for your next sugaring treatment is as soon as your hair growth phase appears and is about 1/8” and ¼” long. This is typically 4-6 weeks for most body areas. The time is a bit shorter for underarms, which is approximately 3 weeks depending on individual growth rate. Coming in on a regular schedule will allow you to maintain your soft, smooth skin! You will get long-lasting results when coming every 4-6 weeks.
